Piper asks:
DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE CHRISTCHURCH EARTHQUAKE? I WAS IN IT . IT WAS SCARY IT HAPPENED HERE I'M SHOCKED!
Yes, I have been talking to family and friends in Christchurch. My niece Lara lives there. She has 18 month-old twins and they, like you, have been very shocked by the terrible quakes!
I would love to know more about your life with horses. Is that possible?
I have ridden since I was around 8. I begged my parents to buy me a pony but they said they couldn’t afford one. I was lucky to find a pony to ride. If you look at the second page of Ripple and the Wild Horses of White Cloud Station, you’ll see the book is dedicated to that pony. Since then I’ve had many horses. There is a poster of my horses you can open on the right.
In every single one of your books there's a major event, have you came up with one in the next book? And do you know what it's going to be called?
I’m working on my next book and yes there’s lots of excitement and suspense in this book. I can’t tell you what it’s called yet!
What happens down in your part of the country?
I live in the Tasman District. We have lots of sunshine here and do lots of outdoor activities like ‘riding’ and ‘being’ with our horses, yay!
What do you normally do in your house?
Write! When I take a break from writing I take my dog for walks to the beach where I often come up with new ideas (for books).

Sarah asks:
How did you get into writing?
In 2001 I did the photography for a book called Dog Works that a friend wrote. Following this I was determined write my 'own' book and have it published! In 2004 my first book A Way with Horses was published with Random House. I now have 9 published books; the most recent being the White Cloud Station series.
What was your life like with your horses like going to pony club?
Like most horse mad girls, I begged my parents to buy a pony! I have attached a PDF file for you about my first pony Honey. I then rode for other people (including my riding club instructor). Eventually I was lent a very good jumping pony named Tommy. The kind family who owned Tommy carted me to hunts, shows, and ODEs so I was very lucky. I loved Friday afternoons, as they would come with the horse float and take us to their farm, near the mountains for the weekends, delivering us back for school on Monday!
How hard was it to write your first book?
My first 'fiction' book was Ripple and the Wild Horses of White Cloud Station. Writing the series took a huge amount of focus and time, however, I wouldn't really say doing something you enjoy is 'hard' work. :) I have an awesome publisher (Penguin). I normally take the photos for the covers; at this stage 'the work' (as it is called) is being turned into an actual book and it's fun seeing proofs of the covers. There are many processes that go into the making of a book! The most rewarding part is receiving positive feedback from readers!
